Here are some of the ways that you can help prevent the global deforestation levels.
The general public cannot stop trees from being cut down, but we can make sure that the rates that trees are being cut down get decreased, we can do this by doing more for the ecology around us and answer their call for help because now more than ever, trees need us to take action.
Recycle daily
Getting into the habit of recycling is a great first step to becoming a sustainable human being. Knowing that you have recycled something will put your mind at ease if you worry too much about doing enough for the environment. Recycling paper is a good way to stop the rates of a bulk of trees from being cut down at the same time. If the community does recycle more paper, trees won't have to be cut down every so often as recycled paper can be introduced. The same goes for plastic or glass. So, it is important to recycle paper instead of throwing it into general waste bins or on the ground which is considered littering.
Finding alternative ways to produce paper
Yes, there are a bunch of options when it comes to producing paper. the most common way it reproducing paper through paper that has been recycled. This way decreases the amount of trees being cut down as the recycled paper is reproduced into paper. Another option is to produce paper from the hemp plant, sugarcane or even seaweed fibres. Seaweed is rich in cellulose which can produce good quality paper. Another way can be through old t-shirts that aren't in use anymore. The cotton is extracted from the recycled t-shirts and then get turned into a strong, canvas-like paper.
Reducing the consumption of paper
Over the last century, the technological advances in digital devices and machines has increased rapidly, and as a result of this, paper is not being used as it was in the last decade. While the digital devices and machines may have helped decrease the rates of deforestation, trees in this day and age are still being cut down for paper and other resources. There are still some parts of the world that need paper to communicate and for other reasons, but if we try to decrease our paper consumption, I think we can completely put a stop to deforestation in some parts of the world where it is taking a toll on the humans and the wildlife there.
Reducing the consumption of deforestation prone products
This is another way that we can help decrease the levels of deforestation, by putting a stop to purchasing the products that help the cause in the first place. For example, one of the main reasons that deforestation takes place is due to the large palm plantations in various parts of Asia. These palms have the oil extracted from them so that businesses can make huge profits while not knowing the damage that they have caused in the process. While Palm oil is a crucial ingredient in many dishes from around the world, cutting down on the consumption of these products can benefit the levels of deforestation rates as it will cut down the amount of trees being cut down and replaced to gain profit.
Purchasing products from businesses that practise sustainable methods.
And lastly, if you can purchase products from sustainable, forest-friendly companies that also support the cause, it will be a huge help as this will mean that these companies are able to support and give back to helping the cause. Companies like L'Oréal, Disney, Hershey's, Unilever and more.
